If the casino players are happy with their cards and want to complete their turn, they should call a stand. Some betting rules in blackjack state that casino players can only double their bets if the player’s hand totals 9, 10 or 11, and they can only double their bets each round. It pays to double down on almost all 10 or 11 hands, and it pays off on many hands with aces and 2-7 cards, but only if the dealer has a lower hand.

When a pair (two cards of equal value) is presented, casino players may split their hands and play as two separate hands. Split rules require players to match their original bets to cover their new hands. In 21 moves, the rules for splitting vary the most. Some casinos allow only one split per round, while online casino players allow up to three splits, resulting in four hands. If a player is not sure about the casino’s betting rules, he should always ask the dealer or check the blackjack variation rules. Aces and 8s are always worth splitting as long as the dealer has a 7 or lower, as do most 2s, 3s, 6s and 7s.

When a player has blackjack and the dealer has an ace, they may ask the player if they want to “split the money”. This means accepting a 1:1 payout on the original bet before the dealer checks the blackjack. Like insurance, this type of betting is generally not advisable as players are statistically better off not betting.
